How to Get Driving Directions with Google Maps

June 07, 2023
Google Maps Driving Directions

If you’re someone who regularly drives for their job or their daily responsibilities, you’ve almost definitely used a variety of navigational apps to help you on your journey, most likely, Google Maps. If you’re a deep thinker (like us), you may even begin to question the best apps and most effective methods of utilizing them and ponder questions such as, are driving directions with Google Maps the best option? Or, can Google Maps help me plot a multi-route journeys? Well, we’re going to go through all of that and more in this article. But most importantly, we want to introduce you to MyRouteOnline, a leading GPS app for drivers across the globe.

Why is MRO needed?

We know what you’re thinking. Do we really need another navigation app? Aren’t there a ton of them? What makes this one different? You’re not wrong about the first thing, there are a ton of navigational apps, and many drivers get driving directions with Google Maps etc., – so why bother downloading MyRoute app?

MyRouteOnline is a gem of the navigational apps for many reasons, but one of the leading reasons is its ability to plan an extensive multi-route journey for drivers that need to complete complex journeys but don’t want to fuss over meticulously mapping out the most efficient journey.

Using Google Maps and MyRouteOnline together

Many new users (or potential users) wonder if they have to ditch their known and trusted Google Maps driving directions altogether if they are to use MyRouteOnline, which they don’t. In fact, Google Maps and MyRouteOnline are like Peanut butter and Jelly; they just get better when you put them together.

Here’s the gist of how it works: MyRouteOnline does all of the heavy lifting when it comes to coordinating a complex journey that includes dozens of stops and finds you the optimal route for your journey. Then, MyRouteOnline communicates that route to Google Maps, and you, as the driver, get to use driving directions Google Maps as you ordinarily would, using Google’s navigational audio and on-screen prompts to guide you along your journey.

Can’t you use Google Maps for multi-stop journeys?

Yes, you can. However, Google Maps only allows you to input a total of 10 destinations in your trajected journey, which is fine if you’re a non-commercial driver who simply wants to complete a handful of tasks around the city in the most efficient timeline. But it doesn’t cut the mustard for professional drivers that need to complete dozens (or hundreds) of stops a day, or even “regular joes” that have 10+ destinations in mind.

For reference, here’s how you can add multiple stops in Google Maps:

  1. Open your Google Maps app
  2. Click on “Directions”
  3. Enter your start location
  4. Look to the left; below your entered destinations, there is an “Add” button; click that
  5. Enter your next destination address
  6. You can repeat this process up to 8 times, with a grand total of 10 destinations
  7. Click on a route to see your directions
  8. You can manually change the order of your stops by dragging any selected destination

In this regard, Google Maps simply cannot keep up with MyRouteOnline. It is limited to 10 destinations, requires more time to manually enter all addresses, and relies on you as the user to figure out the route’s best sequence.

Whereas with MyRouteOnline, you can add up to 1000 addresses to one journey, are able to import a list of contacts rather than manually enter them, and sit back and relax while the app does the route optimization and configuration for you.

The cliff note Q&A’s

Can Google Maps plot out a multi-stop journey?

Technically yes, but users are limited to a total of 10 stops. Compared to MyRouteOnlines’ ability to coordinate 1000 stops, there’s no real competition here for commercial drivers. Additionally, Google Maps focuses on driving directions and leaves multi-stop route optimization to the user.

Can Google Maps Optimize a Route?

In essence, no, it can’t. Google Maps will optimize a basic route for its users, such as the best way to get from point A to point B. But when you add in point C through J, it doesn’t have the capability to do this.

What should you choose between Google Maps and MyRouteOnline?

You don’t have to choose! Remember the little PB&J analogy? These two apps are titans in the navigational software industry and truly work best when used in conjunction with one another.

Ready to get started combining driving directions, Google Maps, and MyRouteOnline? It’s easy as pie!
